I feel especiall bad because the polishing was a gift to my brother from me (It may sound like a strange gift but I got him the watch in the first place for a best mans gift) Depends a bit on the model, some show marks much more than others. But in general, you don't ever want to rub a dirty, dry surface with any cloth. As others have mentioned, you can wash the watch and then dry it with nearly any clean cloth. Rolex metal seems to show more than any other watch I own. EVERY time I wear my Sub it looks dirty. I like to service my watches every six years if all is good it shouldn't be more than 800.
