Recently I bought a vintage Omega Seamaster Cosmic (166.0195) from 1974. I’m really happy with it so far, but I have a question about the automatic cal. 1012 movement. I noticed when I’m turning the crown when manually winding the watch, I cannot continue turning the crown when it’s fully wound.
I have an Omega 1000m – 166.093, caliber 1012 with the reference 3386902X. Service Dial 3 dark blue and B3 bezel. According to the book Omega Saga, the 1012 movement was created in 1973 (126,000 pieces) . I used this info to adjust my 1973 1012 Seamaster that was losing like 6 sec/hr. I moved the lower lever away from the top one and checked the beat rate with the WildSpectra Mobile Pro Android app on my Nexus 7 tablet. I have it staying within 5-10 seconds/day now.
Slightly less charming is the Omega Calibre 1012 movement. While it boasts nearly identical specifications to the King Seiko Cal. 5621, the Calibre 1012 is a far more fragile beast with a reputation for weak dial-side components.
If you have a look at your seamaster 1000, you'll notice that the inner case is fashioned to fit the movement - and there's quite a bit of metal from the inner to outer case. Your Geneve has, again, the correctly fashioned space (27.90+ mm) to accommodate the movement.
